Forensic Files
Not my preferred TV fare, and yet
it confirms my faith in the power
of persistence. The plots lure me
into a tightening noose of evidence
that inch by inch secures the perpetrator.
Every program builds a bulwark
of protection for the truth to be revealed.
Every killer gets his just desserts
and mitigates my horror of what
can happen suddenly to anyone.
With such dogged detectives on each case,
guaranteeing that reason will prevail,
it’s easy to forget how threat of capture
provides no restraint against the worst of us
who come disguised as the best of us.
