Anticipation
Smoke from nearby wildfires Rolls through the outfield Fog that smells like a campfire The ballplayers’ eyes burn As they crouch, hands on knees Peering toward the infield Waiting for what happens next
About the poet:
Jake Rinloan is a native Californian who has lived much of his life in Washington state with stints in Canada and Finland. He is a University of Washington graduate who enjoys writing, reading, and outdoor recreation. Jake worked most recently as a project director for the California chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
